Goodbye to the Land Down Under

Whoever said that time flies wasn't kidding. I cannot believe that three weeks have already passed and it is time for me to go home. It's truly bittersweet; I am heartbroken that I have to leave Julie, Kevin and Dedric but am excited to go home and be with my friends and family for New Years. This trip was truly amazing and filled with so many memories. I am so blessed to be able to take such a journey and have such a great time. Happy New Years everyone!  This is sister and I at a fancy restaurant we went to to celebrate my belated birthday. Caught the sunset at Secret Harbour Beach Kissing Dedric goodbye Goodbye Australia, thanks for a great adventure.

Fremantle/Safety Bay Beach

Greatly enjoyed strolling through the Fremantle market yesterday and hitting the beach today. It was really hot and the coverage of massive waves was refreshing. I am only here for 3 more days so I'm trying to enjoy every last moment of it.

Merry Christmas!

It's strange to be away from home and my church during this time of year but I am glad to be spending it with my sister, her husband and my adorable little nephew.

Goode Beach

It's been a while since I blogged because we were in Albany at a beach house that did not have wifi. Before we left we went on a Christmas light cruise that was absolutely lovely. It went down canals that have houses on them that decorate every year; it was fun and festive and felt very Christmasy (they even had carollers!)   On Wednesday we left to Albany and arrived at our beach house that was right by Goode Beach. It was such an unbelievably beautiful area! I scoped it out and the next day got up early for a morning walk and to watch the sunrise.  The house was equipped with kayaks so later on Thursday we took them out and headed to the beach. The water was so unbelievably clear that even in neck deep water you can still see the bottom- even the shadows of the kayaks were visibly on the ocean floor. It wasn't too hot but we still got sunburnt because of how differently the sun burns here. We loved kayaking and swimming and had an absolutely lovely time. For dinner we headed

Sunday

Today was a great day. It started with going to church where Dedric got dedicated and prayed over- a very special occasion. After church we headed to Nando's for lunch (yummmmm) and had boccone dolce made by sister for dessert. In the evening we went to the Rockingham foreshor for ice cream and an evening stroll to watch the sunset. I collected shells while walking through the sand- it was a delightful evening. On the way home we got some shark for dinner and ended the day with a game of Rummikub- today was splendid.

Symphony in the City

Yesterday we attended an outdoor symphony in the park by the Swan River and it was amazing!!! It was so beautiful to see the sun go down through the palm trees and the lights and fireworks were spectacular! The West Australian Symphony Orchestra performed such beautiful songs and were accompanied by a very talented chorus. I absolutely loved it and it really felt like summer.

Good morning!

It's my third day here and I'm loving it. Meeting my nephew was so precious! He is so adorable and is actually quite a good baby! Yesterday sister and I went to the beach- it was so hot that the sand was burning. The water is so unbelievably clear that even if you go in up to your waist you can still see your toes. And no- I did not see any sharks. I am disappointed that I haven't seen any kangaroos yet but hopefully that will change soon. Today we are planning to go to one of our favorite cafes for breakfast and then hit the shops and hopefully send some postcards back to the PNW. It's taking time to adjust to the schedule because the sun rises so early, today I managed to sleep in until 6am! It is so beautiful here and I am loving my trip. Hope you guys are having an awesome time in your preparations for Christmas.

Finals and 100

In honor of this being the 100th post on The Town Scribe this year, I decided to dedicate it to finals week! All of my classes are online, so this will be my last week of work for the quarter... and then... I'm off to Australia! I am very excited for this quarter to be over because it has been the most difficult one yet. Wishing anyone else in the same boat many blessings.

Vee-1, Ding Dong Ditchers-0

I remember ding dong ditching as a kid, but wish at that age I understood how annoying it really is. Mom and I were drinking tea and someone knocked really loud on our door. After opening it and seeing no one was there, I stood with the door slightly cracked and saw some girls running up the street. As I was playing piano they did it again, but this time I didn't bother answering. I sensed that they were going to come back a third time and decided that I needed to do something- lest they kept coming back the whole evening. I stood by the door, looking through the peep hole, waiting for them to come back. Alas, I see a girl quickly approaching my door, and as she reached to knock and run away, I knocked really loud from my side before she got a chance. She's an amateur, she wasn't expecting retaliation- she ran away screaming. I got her sooooooo good!

DJ

Yes she does!!! And cannot wait to meet little Squirmy in one month!!!

Psalm 61:2

Resolved!

I resolve to let go of the small stuff. The insignificant little grievances that make me bitter and upset and that oppose my selfish standard for how I think I should be treated. In light of tragic events that have recently occurred in my church, I have been thinking about things I might later regret. When people I love begin to disappear from my life, what am I going to regret most about my relationships with them? And that is when I realized how so foolishly I had been holding on to bitter disappointments and keeping them buried deep in my heart- refusing to forgive and instead foster a deeper and more meaningful relationship with them. I realized that it is all of the little things I refuse to let go of: all of the memories of shortcomings and mistakes- that is what keeps me from loving with a Christ like love. Am I so perfect that I am not in need of such grace from others? Absolutely not! I struggled with this thought for a while and would not stop seeing my grievances as legitim

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth;  Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim Because it was grassy and wanted wear, Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day!  Yet knowing how way leads on to way I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

Damp Tuesdays in Portland

Yesterday: meeting at PSU with a career counselor: Homework date with Tanya at Coffeehouse Northwest: Pittock Mansion for the fun of it: Beautiful fall weather: Just how I like it.

Fall Happenings!

Today was a stupendous day with many wonderful happenings. First of all, I am glad that nature finally got the memo that it is fall. Secondly, I got to wear my new rain boots today (a trivial happiness at that.) Thirdly, I went to the pumpkin patch with friends and it was good fun. We drank cider, sling shot pumpkins, hiked through a corn maze, and went on a hay ride; after which I picked the most perfect pumpkin. It's awesome to live in a place that has these kinds of events, and to have friends to enjoy them with.  And lastly... Maria asked me to be her bridesmaid!!! She did it in the sweetest way possible, I was blown away by such a thoughtful gift and surprise. I am so honored to have an opportunity to share such a special moment with such a good friend. I am so excited for the things to come.

Squirmy!

Two months until I see this adorable, squirmy little pupsik!!!
If only our eyes saw souls instead of bodies, how very different our ideals for beauty would be.
I sit beside the fire and think of all that I have seen of meadow-flowers and butterflies in summers that have been; Of yellow leaves and gossamer in autumns that there were, with morning mist and silver sun and wind upon my hair I sit beside the fire and think of how the world will be when winter comes without a spring that I shall ever see. For still there are so many things that I have never seen in every wood in every spring there is a different green I sit beside the fire and think of people long ago and people who will see the world that I shall never know.  J R R Tolkien

Senior Status

I am still in disbelief that I am a senior in college. Where has the time gone?-Who knows!? I am so pleasantly surprised at how my life turned out! I am so thankful for the education that I get to have-considering that 510 million women worldwide are illiterate, what makes me different from any of them? That could have easily been me. I do not deserve anything that I have and am so astounded at the freedom that I have.  Praying for discipline, opportunity, discernment, standing firm, working hard, clear thinking, dedication to what is most important, encouragement, and a job at the end. Here's to a great year as a senior in college. "You keep me steady when the sky is falling..so no matter what I will be facing I will not be overtaken, and You are the only reason why"

Engaged!!!

I could not be happier to congratulate Mariya and Yura on their engagement. Their relationship is so godly and admirable, it makes me so happy to see how God just brings people together so perfectly. I am so happy to have both of them as my dear friends and wish them every blessing as they prepare to commit their lives to one another in holy matrimony.

Cool Things

Was at the Land Bridge with some friends at night when we heard what sounded like deep gunshots, later to realize that the cannon at the Fort was being fired. We noticed candlelight there also so our curious minds just dragged us there. We discovered Campfire and Candlelight at the Fort, and I must say that I was completely blown away. Everyone was dressed up as people from different wars in history and had stations set up to display how certain things would happen back in the day. We got to see a nurses station, and were impressed by the soldiers quarters. I was offered to have my wisdom teeth removed by some scary contraption and the postman was distressed to find that we came without any "men folk" lol. I felt like I was in a movie and was blown away by the attention to detail. Old typewriters, pipes, letters, maps, torn tents, and everything was lit by lanterns. Looking forward to next year. I live in such a cool place with such interesting history.  On the other ha
